Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the best time to install sod in Amarillo?

A: Spring (April-May) and early fall (September-October) are ideal. The moderate temperatures help sod establish before summer heat or winter cold. We can install year-round, but establishment takes longer in extreme temperatures.

Q: How long until I can walk on new sod?

A: Light foot traffic is okay after about 2 weeks. Wait 3-4 weeks for normal use and 6+ weeks before heavy activity. The sod needs time to root into the soil.

Q: How much water does new sod need?

A: New sod needs frequent, light watering—typically 2-3 times per day for the first two weeks, then gradually reduced. We'll program your irrigation system and give you a watering schedule.

Q: Can you install sod over my existing lawn?

A: No—we remove the old grass and prepare the soil first. Laying sod over existing grass leads to poor root contact, drainage problems, and failure. Proper prep is essential.

Q: What type of mulch do you recommend?

A: It depends on your goals. Hardwood mulch breaks down and improves soil over time. Cedar resists insects. Rock mulch is permanent but doesn't add nutrients. We'll recommend based on your beds and preferences.

Q: How deep should mulch be?

A: 2-3 inches is ideal for most beds. Too thin won't suppress weeds; too thick can suffocate plant roots and hold excess moisture.

Q: Do you install plants, or just beds?

A: We install plants and shrubs as part of bed construction or renovation. We select plants suited to Amarillo's climate and your specific sun/shade conditions.

Q: How much does landscape lighting cost to operate?

A: Low-voltage LED systems use very little electricity—typically a few dollars per month for an average residential system. LEDs also last years longer than traditional bulbs

Q: Can you add lighting to my existing landscape?

A: Absolutely. We can design and install lighting for established landscapes without major disruption. We bury wire with minimal surface disturbance.

Q: Do you coordinate landscaping with irrigation installation?

A: Yes—that's our specialty. We design irrigation zones around your landscape plan so beds, lawn, and drip areas all get the right amount of water. Doing both together saves time and money
